Millers Row (Screenplay Pitch)
An animated family feature screenplay with themes of courage, loyalty and perseverance.
Following on from blockbusters such as Antz and The Bee Movie, welcome to ‘Millers Row’, home to a whole community of bugs.
Synopsis (with spoilers):
Tasked with obtaining a grain of salt for their school graduation project, spiderlings Tom Tangleweb and best friend Penny Scuttle persuade Tom’s street-wise brother, Pete, to take them from the safety of the cellar to the dining room. But things go awry and Pete is captured by a young boy.
Tom and Penny then set off on a rescue mission to the boy’s bedroom, but they’re too late. The boy has swapped Pete for a ladybird and he is now several houses away along the street. They discover the only way to reach him is through the adjoining attics of Millers Row.
Negotiating the perilous attics tests their ingenuity to the limits as they encounter, and must overcome, a series of physical challenges, and meet the inhabitants, both friendly and unfriendly. The latter include an obnoxious louse, a gang of badass roaches and a hungry, but dim-witted, mouse.
In a rescue worthy of Mission Impossible they eventually liberate Pete from his jam-jar prison and then face yet more hazards, such as the dreaded vacuum cleaner, to get home.
The adventure concludes when the trio succeed in finding that all-important grain of salt, and Tom and Penny’s friendship blossoms into love.
